Mission

Idaho HealthCorps members serve in non-profit organizations with a health related goal to provide outreach to children and families, provide health screenings and education, and serve as a link between the community and the non-profit programs in which the members serve.

Vision

Through the Idaho HealthCorps AmeriCorps program, Idaho State University’s Institute of Rural Health places members across the state to address the health needs of Idaho’s low-income children and families in rural underserved areas. AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing health education and health screening activities, which will result in improved access to health care in Idaho. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage additional community volunteers who will be engaged in assisting the AmeriCorps members at their placement sites. Many Idaho residents are from rural, low income and underserved areas and face significant health care challenges. Families from low-income backgrounds are often uninsured, may have language barriers, and often lack access to health care due to lack of transportation, income or limited health literacy. As a result, the Idaho HealthCorps AmeriCorps member service locations stretch across most areas of the state.
